D.L. Lang served as Vallejo’s second ever poet laureate from September 2017 until September 2019. During this time she gave over 125 public performances including traveling to perform in Benicia, Berkeley, San Francisco, Orinda, Napa, Fairfield, Novato, San Rafael, San Mateo, Oakland, Pleasanton, Monterey, and Los Angeles, reading on KPFA and KZCT, and using her voice at local demonstrations and organizations such as Families Belong Together, Vallejo Women’s Summit, Vallejo March for Peace & Justice, Participatory Budgeting, International Peace Day, Vallejo United Against Hatred & Anti-Semitism, Unity Day, Vallejo Soup, Poetry Out Loud, and the Vallejo Peace Project. She regularly hosted Poetry in Notion and other shows at the John F. Kennedy Library in Vallejo, and continued to perform at Poetry by the Bay. Her poet laureate project was an anthology featuring 43 writers entitled Verses, Voices & Visions of Vallejo created as a fundraiser for the Vallejo Peace Project. This book, Midnight Strike, is her twelfth poetry book.

Midnight Strike features Jewish poems such as “Turning” first published in on ReformJudaism.org, political poetry such as the entire 36 verses of “A Blessing for the Women Who Pray With Their Feet” written for the 2019 Vallejo Women’s Summit, and other selections written between September 2018 and July 2019.

D.L. Lang is the current Poet Laureate of Vallejo, California. She is the author of twelve books, and one spoken word album. She has featured at many events around the bay area, been interviewed on KPFA and KZCT, and her poetry has been anthologized in Light & Shadow, A Poet’s Siddur, and Marin Poetry Center Anthology, Vol 21. She is the editor of Verses, Voices, & Visions of Vallejo.
