Words We each carry two bags of words. One is heavier than the other. Each bag is mixed of good and evil. Each bag is worn and broken. New tears appear daily in them both. The heavy words slip out with a thud. The lighter ones fly without forethought. Sometimes, we release them, intentionally, meaningfully. Other times emotions rip through the fabric, And out comes floods of senseless rhetoric, The cheerleaders of fear adding fuel to fires that burn everything with their hate. These words land like bricks in the windows of the heart, and when the heart is shattered and fragile, there are never enough words of repair, but it is up to us to dig deep inside, and find the right words of healing. We must find the words that will begin to fill the cracks of our hearts with love, and fuel our footsteps towards righteousness again.
This is a throwback poem from a previously published book. I’ll be posting throwbacks every Wednesday.
