Widen The Tent

Widen the Tent

The stars a twinkle like string lights
as we stand together on this night
setting upon our lives a new sight
with renewed strength to fight
for what our souls deem is right.

It is the calm before the storm
as we must reinvent the norms
towards a finer destiny formed
where none shall feel forlorn,
a life of blessing to all born
starting this very next morn.

The choices currently presented
are figures both widely resented
by those who now lamented
what a true leader could have implemented
had it not been circumvented
by deception so easily prevented
had the systems not been rented
by forces ever so bribed and bent
towards never widening the tent.

Alas, as bleak as the trajectory seems,
we mustn’t abandon the dreams
of those who were quite keen
to begin to lift us above the mean
and shape this world with heavenly scenes.
