Thank you, Marin County Fair, for awarding this poem 3rd place in Any Other Poetry!
(My favorite poem I’ve ever written, “Headline Antidote” also received 5th place in this category!)
From Unity To Community
In a twirling rainbow of humanity,
love surrounded hate’s insanity.
Working together for utopia now.
Can’t wait any longer, anyhow.
Mind’s eye filled with vision.
Feet springing into action,
dancing toward tomorrow,
with songs of joyous unison.
Plant the seeds of peace
in holy soils ripe for flowers.

About the Book
Local bookstores and libraries often provide venues for poets and local authors, and many of them have invited me to read over the years, so when possible, please shop local! Any bookstore should be able to special order it for you using the ISBN, so please utilize your local independent bookshop. The book is also available through interlibrary loan. Check WorldCat for which libraries currently carry this title.
Reviews of Poet Loiterer:
“Lang’s themes include wanderlust, love for nature (and especially hiking in the California hills), religious devotion, paying the bills versus living the artist’s life, and transforming from a passive pacifist to an activist. “You gave me lungs, / so that I might breathe peace” expresses forthright praise to God in “What You Created,” and elsewhere, verse expresses delight in Jewish practice: “There’s music and Torah both running through my soul,” she observes–a quirky combination that brings to mind a Jewish Janis Joplin. In the satirical “Doves in Season,” the traditional peace symbol is being hunted. “Fear not the rocking boat,” another poem advises, encouraging readers to question racism, capitalism, and America’s reliance on weapons. There’s “More than one way to be an American,” the poem “Headline Antidote” insists; indeed, this collection imagines a peaceful, joyful future America.” — Kirkus Reviews

Description:
The title Poet Loiterer is a joke between my husband and I, that I am not anyone’s Poet Laureate, but a poet who, as a result of health issues, spends most of her time loitering around town, home, synagogue, doctors’ offices, and when I feel up to it, hiking, lots and lots of hiking!
This book is a pastry, fluffy with a chocolate center. This entire book was written in 2015 in various locations around the Bay Area, which is a first, as my previous books had also contained many old poems that I’d written as a kid. This is all me at age 31/32 with poems created from April – November 2015.
It starts out with “To Get Free” which won Best of Show at the Solano County Fair in 2015. It is a diverse 180 page volume with nature poems, protest poems, spiritual poems, and story poems.
The cover photograph of my loitering outside my synagogue was generously donated and was taken on December 4, 2015 by Norm Levin of Natural Portraits and Events.
